Who Moves in Manatee County?
More people every year. The Census Bureau counted 399,710 residents in 2020 and estimated 468,200 by July 2025, a 17.1% jump.
The same tables explain why one moving page can’t fit everyone:
| What the Census found | Figure | What it means for moves |
|---|---|---|
| Residents 65 and older | 29.4% | Many moves involve downsizing or a condo |
| Lived in the same house a year earlier | 86.0% | About 1 in 7 residents moved within a year |
| Veterans | 31,972 | Military rules can shape the move |
| Homes lived in by their owners | 74.3% | Many moves start with a sale or a closing |
| Median gross rent | $1,671 | Renters move at lease end, on tight dates |
Home sales keep crews busy too. The Realtor Association of Sarasota and Manatee reported 694 single-family sales and 238 condo and townhome sales in Manatee County in July 2026 alone, according to Sarasota Magazine.
Snowbirds and Seasonal Residents
Many seasonal moves aren’t a whole house. They’re a few rooms of furniture on a shared truck from up north, a car shipped down I-95 or I-75 and a home that has to be closed up before hurricane season.
The questions that matter most:
- Will a partial load meet the van line’s weight minimum?
- Who lets the truck in if you arrive after it does?
- Where does the furniture go while you’re away from June through October?
Canadians have two more: the U.S. registration rule for stays over 30 days and customs rules for household goods. The snowbirds page covers all of it.
Students and IMG Academy Families
Bradenton’s student moves are spread across four campuses. IMG Academy boards most of its students on Bollettieri Boulevard. State College of Florida students rent near 26th Street West. LECOM, on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, offers no campus housing at all. And the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus on North Tamiami Trail moved to New College of Florida on July 1, 2026.
Many of these jobs are small: a one-bedroom apartment, a storage unit for the summer or a few pieces up a flight of stairs. The students page has costs, school by school details and Florida’s security deposit rules.
Realtors and Property Managers
Agents need a truck that lines up with a closing date that can move. Property managers need a crew that shows up between tenants with a certificate of insurance already sent to the condo board.
The page covers three topics in detail:
- Rent-backs. The Florida Realtors and Florida Bar contract has a rider for a seller who stays after closing.
- Listing prep. Extra furniture moved to storage before the photos.
- Evictions. Florida law sets out when a landlord can move a tenant’s belongings to the property line.
The realtors and property managers page also covers the NAR rule on disclosing any fee from a recommended vendor.
Military Families and Veterans
A move tied to orders starts with the transportation office, not a phone call to a mover. Government shipments use an assigned carrier.
What a family can book on its own:
- A personally procured move, or PPM, with your own truck or a hired crew
- A move off base that isn’t on orders
- Self-storage during a deployment
- The second move, when retirees rent first and buy later
Florida also lets servicemembers end a lease on PCS orders that move them 35 miles or more away. Details are on the military families page.
Seniors Who Are Downsizing
Nearly 3 in 10 Manatee County residents are 65 or older. Their moves take more time than the truck ride. Decades of belongings get sorted into keep, give to family, sell and donate.
Some families bring in a senior move manager to run that part. AARP lists their rates at $60 to $120 an hour, citing the National Association of Senior and Specialty Move Managers. The movers handle the carrying. See senior moving.
Families Moving With Kids
Timing is the whole game with children. Move before the school year starts if you can. Pack the kids’ rooms last, so they’re the first rooms set up at the new house.
Manatee County students went back to class on August 10 for the 2026 to 2027 year, ABC7 Sarasota reported. A move in July leaves time to enroll and find the bus stop before the first bell. Our moving with kids guide covers the rest.
Renters and Condo Owners
Renters move on the lease’s clock. Florida law sets the deposit deadlines: a landlord has 15 days to return a deposit, or 30 days to send a written claim. Photograph every room empty before you hand back the keys.
Condo owners move on the association’s clock. Many buildings want a certificate of insurance from the mover, an elevator reservation and a move inside set hours. Call the office before you pick a date. See apartment movers and condo movers.
What Does Every Caller Need, No Matter Who They Are?
Five things, every time.
- Both addresses and a date. Add a backup date if you have one.
- A list of what’s moving. Room by room, plus anything heavy: a piano, a safe or a pool table.
- The access. Stairs, elevators, gates and how far the truck parks from the door.
- A written estimate.Florida Statute 507.05 requires a signed written estimate before any work starts.
- A registration number. Check it on the verify a mover page before you sign.
Know the coverage too. Florida’s minimum is 60 cents per pound per item, so a 50-pound TV is covered for $30 unless you buy more.
What Happens When You Call?

More Questions About Who We Serve
Do Movers Charge Less for Seniors, Students or Military Families?
Some offer discounts. No rule requires one, so ask when you call. If a discount is offered, make sure it’s printed on the written estimate.
What if My Move Fits More Than One Group?
Read both pages. A retired veteran who winters here has questions from the military page and the snowbirds page. A realtor selling a parent’s home fits the realtor page and the senior moving page.
Is Bradenton Mover Line a Moving Company?
No. It’s a phone line that connects callers with independent moving companies. The mover you’re connected with quotes the job, does the work and answers for it.
Do You Only Cover Bradenton?
No. The line takes calls from across Manatee County, from Anna Maria Island to Myakka City, and from Sarasota. See the service areas page for your town.
