Example Move: A Third-Floor Apartment in Bradenton to a Palmetto Townhouse
Example scenario. Names, details and photos are for illustration only.
A walk-up apartment, a lease that ends on the 30th and a security deposit you want back. That’s the setup for this example of a one-bedroom apartment move across the Manatee River. Call +1 (941) 392-6022. Bradenton Mover Line connects you with an independent mover that can plan your own apartment move.

Who Is Moving in This Example?

A nurse we’ll call “Alyssa.” She rents a third-floor, one-bedroom unit with no elevator near downtown Bradenton. She’s moving to a two-story townhouse she just leased in Palmetto, about 4 miles away. Her lease ends on November 30. The new one starts November 15, so she has two weeks of overlap.
| Detail | Old home | New home |
|---|---|---|
| Place | Downtown Bradenton | Palmetto |
| Type | 1-bedroom apartment, third floor, no elevator | 2-story townhouse |
| What’s going | Queen bed, sofa, dresser, dining set, about 25 boxes | Same, plus a few new pieces later |
What Did She Need to Figure Out?
Three questions, and most renters face the same ones.
Movers or a rental van? She works 12-hour shifts and had no one free to help carry a sofa down two flights. That ruled out doing it herself.
When to move? She picked a Tuesday in mid-November, so she could skip the month-end rush and leave time to clean before the walk-through.
How to keep her deposit? Her deposit was a full month’s rent. She wanted it back in one piece.
How Did She Plan It?
- Five weeks out: she called +1 (941) 392-6022 and was connected with a mover. She gave both addresses, the floor and the date. She got two more quotes on her own.
- Four weeks out: each mover asked for photos of the large pieces and a short video of the stairwell. Each sent a signed, itemized written estimate, as Florida Statute 507.05 requires, even for a small move.
- Three weeks out: she checked each mover’s state registration on our verify a mover page and booked one. The deposit went on a credit card.
- Two weeks out: she called both leasing offices. The old complex wanted the truck out of the fire lane. The new one asked for a certificate of insurance from the mover.
- One week out: she packed her own boxes on days off and set aside a bag with scrubs, chargers and medicine.
What Would a Move Like This Cost?
These are published averages, not quotes:
| Item | Average | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Typical 1-bedroom move in Bradenton | About $604 | moveBuddha, September 2026 |
| Stair fee, per flight | $50 to $75 | moveBuddha, Bradenton area |
| Labor-only help, 1-bedroom, no truck | About $313 | HireAHelper |
Start with the $604 average. Add two flights of stairs at $50 to $75 each, and a move like this lands near $700 to $750.
Labor-only help costs less on paper. Once you add a rental truck, gas and pads, the gap shrinks. For someone with no free days to rent and return a truck, it wasn’t worth it.
Your real price comes only from the mover’s written estimate. More on stair fees, elevators and lease timing is on our apartment movers page.
How Did Move Day Go?

Two movers arrived at 8 a.m. Before anything moved, the crew lead walked the unit with Alyssa and went over the paperwork on a clipboard. She checked that the price matched her written estimate and signed.

The crew padded the door frames and wrapped the dining chairs and lampshades in plastic stretch wrap so they wouldn’t scratch on the stairs. The sofa went down the stairwell on its end. HireAHelper’s June 2026 guide gives about 3 hours to load and 2 to unload for a one-bedroom unit. The stairs added time, and loading took close to 3 hours.
The trip across the river took about 15 minutes. At the townhouse, the crew put each box in the room written on it and set up the bed upstairs. One dining chair leg had a scuff. She wrote it on the delivery papers before signing.
How Did She Get Her Deposit Back?
She went back to the empty apartment that afternoon and cleaned it. Then she did four things:
- Took dated photos of every room, closet and appliance
- Gave the landlord her new address in writing. The Florida Bar’s tenant guide says a tenant who skips this can lose the right to object to a claim against the deposit.
- Returned the keys in person and asked for a receipt
- Marked the dates. Under Florida Statute 83.49, a landlord has 15 days to return the full deposit, or 30 days to send written notice of a claim. A tenant then has 15 days to object in writing.
Her deposit came back in full, inside the 15 days.
What Can You Learn From This Example?
- Move a few days before the lease ends, not on the last day.
- Call both leasing offices about parking, hours and insurance papers.
- Check the paperwork before loading. The price should match the written estimate.
- Ask for wrap and padding on chairs and anything with legs when there are stairs.
- Give your landlord a forwarding address in writing before you hand over the keys.
